Welcome to Græna kompaníið, a charming café nestled in the picturesque village of Grundarfjörður, Iceland. Located at Hrannarstígur 5, this delightful spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for travelers and locals alike who are in search of a cozy retreat.

Stepping inside, you'll find an ambiance that exudes comfort and creativity, with shelves lined with books in various languages and an assortment of beautiful yarn for those who love to knit. The décor is both quaint and homely, making it the perfect backdrop for enjoying a good book or chatting with friends over coffee.

Græna kompaníið takes immense pride in its offerings, particularly the delicious array of baked goods. While the café may not have a vast selection of vegan lunch options, it compensates with an impressive variety of vegan desserts, as highlighted by patrons like Michelle Solomon, who was pleasantly surprised to find delectable treats such as apple pie and chocolate cake. These indulgent desserts are perfect complements to their excellent coffee, described by Vitaliy Chumakov as a rarity in Iceland.

Be sure to try the cheesecake—a favorite among visitor Jeremy S.—which is reported to be absolutely divine, clearly homemade, and so irresistible that customers often return for a second slice. With every bite, you can savor the rich, creamy texture that dances on your palate, making it a must-try for anyone visiting nearby attractions like the iconic Kirkjufell mountain.

Beyond the impressive dessert menu, customers rave about the café's great service and friendly atmosphere, as noted by jennifer olli. Imagine enjoying freshly brewed coffee while looking out at the stunning mountain views visible from the café seating—a perfect way to recharge after a day of exploration.

Whether you're a local looking for a new favorite coffee spot or a traveler passing through, Græna kompaníið promises a delightful coffee-and-dessert experience. Make sure to stop by, indulge in the homemade treats, and immerse yourself in the cozy, welcoming ambiance that defines this beautiful café. We happened to stumble upon this cafe while visiting the mountain and waterfall nearby. While they didn't have vegan lunch options, they had several vegan baked goods! We got an apple pie and chocolate cake. It was such a lovely surprise. I didn't expect to find any vegan desserts in this area, so I appreciated they carried some.

Absolutely must stop for a snack or coffee here if you are visiting Kirkjufell. The mountain is visible from the cafe seating. Very easy to get to, right off the main road. There is free parking right in front of the cafe. The cheesecake is absolutely TO DIE FOR!! Clearly homemade, we even got the first slices of the day. (Then went back and got another) We also had the chocolate truffle, which was very tasty, rich, not overly sweet. The skyr blueberry cake was also very tasty. Swiss mokkas were made right there with freshly made whipped cream and a true espresso machine. Shortly after we arrived a group of 6 or 7 people came in and the owner went through there orders very quickly. There is a bathroom on site.

For Iceland, a good coffee shop is a rarity. That's why we were so happy when we found this wonderful coffee shop. Inside is very cozy and homely. Delicious desserts, good coffee, nice atmosphere. I recommend visiting.

Great little stop along the way to our inn. And they have yarn and lots of cool stuff for the knitter in you. As well as a great selection of books. Fun little place!

We stopped in here for lunch and had the best tomato soup we have ever had. It came with amazing homemade bread. It’s a small spot with lots of books and crafty items for sale. Two young girls were running the store the day we stopped in and they were super nice. The town is very small and very pretty. The scenery is amazing. Well worth the stop. One of favorites in our entire trip around the island.
